Blue and White

This is a favorite corner in my kitchen with some of my blue and white collection.  The blue and white plates are hung with Disc Hangers, which are wonderful.  The blue bottles have been collected over time from thrift stores, and the spice cabinet belonged to my grandmother.

Peonies in blue and white pitchers.

One of my favorite books on decorating is A Passion for Blue and White by Carolyne Roehm.  It's a beautiful and inspiring book.

Garden Plaques

I've collected some decorative plaques for my garden and decided they needed a makeover.

I used Rustoleum's Copper spray paint.

When the spray paint dried, I painted the plaques with some teal paint I had on hand, and immediately wiped the paint off with a rag.  A very simple garden project.

Candles and Seashells

I can't get enough of candles and seashells.

The glass jars, vases and tray are thrift store finds.

Love the blues and turquoise.

The detail on this vase is so pretty.

I purchased this glass "beach ball" with sand and shells many years ago.

I guess I've liked seashells for a long time.

Dresser in Aubusson Blue Chalk Paint

I found this dresser on Craig's List.  Nine drawers for storage of my painting and crafting supplies is just what I needed.

I used Annie Sloan's Chalk Paint in Aubusson Blue and Soft Wax as the finish.

The hardware was sprayed with a light coat of Rustoleum's Satin Nickel.

This is the before.  I first painted the dresser with Louis Blue Chalk Paint, but decided that was too light for this dresser.

Love the Aubusson Blue.

TV Cabinet in Graphite

Our old tv stopped working, so we finally broke down and bought a flat screen tv; every man's dream, and every woman's decorating nightmare.

While I was brain storming on where to put the tv, I thought we could re-invent some bookcases.  We had three tall bookcases that we purchased over 20 years ago.  I was just tired of the bulk and dusting the shelves.  I thought we could whack off (technical term) the shelves, use the bottom enclosed portions and put a new wood top on the full length to combine the three units.

I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Graphite.

This was the first time I used chalk paint, and I'm thrilled with the results.

New pulls and knobs were also installed.

I love how it turned out.  Creative thriftiness at its best.

One big glitch we had is that our cat, Smokey, kept jumping up on top of the tv (yikes).  He would do this repeatedly, and we were afraid he'd scratch the tv, or worse, that it would tip.  So Mr. Wildwood quickly installed a shelf above the tv, which we call Smokey's Mantle.  The shelf needs to be sanded and sealed yet.

Do you ever have to decorate around your pets?
